Abstract

In the current globalized academic environment, cross-border collaboration has become pivotal for promoting knowledge and nurturing innovation in higher education field. However, the intricacies of international research partnerships often involve navigating diverse legal landscapes, which can impact the efficiency and productiveness of such collaborations. This paper e/plores the role of Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) in facilitating cross-border academic education and research. MLA treaties and agreements, which traditionally focus on criminal matters, are now being used by nations to address the legal challenges that arise in international scholarly collaborations. The study addresses several relevant concerns and looks at how MLA frameworks might be used to improve academic cooperation. The paper attempts to highlights best practices and identifies common obstacles faced by researchers when engaging in cross-border projects. Major factors include the protection of research integrity, cultural differences, ensuring academic and research quality and addressing funds issue. The paper attempts to showcase that while MLA mechanisms offer significant potential to bolster international research endeavors, there are still gaps in implementation and areas for improvement. In the last section, the paper would provide some recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of MLA in facilitating higher education research, including the need for efficient guidelines, proper communication channels, and greater harmonization of legal standards
