Abstract
India has a long tradition of imparting knowledge. Gurukul was a type of educational institution in ancient India in which disciples (students) lived in the same residence as the guru. The world's earliest university education system was Nalanda. Students from all over the world were attracted to the knowledge systems of India. Many branches of knowledge system originated in India. In ancient India, education was considered a high virtue. The renaissance and scientific thinking that took place in Europe at that time did not take place in India. The British had by that time taken control of Indian affairs and had established various agendas. British India still has a long way to go in terms of education. On the other hand, the British developed the modern education system which is still used in India. He used English-based methods to replace the country's previous education systems.
